Penn State Field Hockey’s Sophia Gladieux Named National & Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week

Penn State field hockey’s Sophia Gladieux racked up several individual honors after a couple of dominant performances this past weekend.

The star freshman forward was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week Monday. On Wednesday afternoon, Gladieux was also crowned NFHCA National Offensive Player of the Week.

Gladieux exploded in Penn State’s two-game series sweep over Michigan State last weekend. The freshman scored four unassisted goals in the Nittany Lions’ 5-2 comeback win over the Spartans Friday, and added another in Sunday’s 3-0 win.

The Boyertown, Pennsylvania native already has six scores on the season and an assist, totaling 13 points through seven games started. Her recent offensive output has helped Char Morett-Curtiss’ squad to a 4-3 overall record and and wins in three of its last four contests.

Gladieux and the Nittany Lions head to Rutgers next on April 2 for a two-game series in Piscataway. Game one will kick off at 1 p.m. next Friday, while game two will start at noon Sunday.
