Former Penn State Football Linebacker Tamba Hali To Retire

Former Penn State football star Tamba Hali will officially end his professional career as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, the team announced today.

Hali signed a one-day contract with Kansas City to officially retire as a Chief. He last played in the NFL in 2017.

The six-time pro bowler played all 11 of his seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs after being selected No. 20 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft. Hali racked up 32 forced fumbles, 89.5 sacks, and 591 total tackles throughout his professional career. Unfortunately, he only played five games in his last season with the Chiefs after suffering an undisclosed injury.

Before his professional career, the Liberia native certainly made his mark on the football field as a Nittany Lion. Hali was named first-team All-Big Ten and a unanimous All-American in 2005 while leading the conference with 11 sacks and 17 tackles. He was also named defensive MVP of the 2006 Senior Bowl before eventually being inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame.

Hali was also instrumental in leading the Nittany Lions to the 2005 Big Ten championship and a 2006 Orange Bowl victory where the team finished 11-1 and ranked No. 3 in the final AP Poll.
