Former Central Connecticut State Guard Jay Rodgers Transfers To Penn State Hoops

Former Central Connecticut State guard Jay Rodgers has committed to transfer to Penn State men’s basketball, he announced Sunday.

The Pickerington, Ohio, native started off his college career at New Orleans, where he played in 11 games before transferring to JUCO outlet Cochise College in Arizona. He averaged 17.8 points per game and shot 40.1% from 3-point range to earn a transfer to Central Connecticut State.

Rodgers spent four seasons with the Blue Devils, only missing 2024-25 with an injury sustained during the 2023-24 campaign. He averaged 9.5 points per game, shot 40.4% from the field, and 34.7% from beyond the arc in his Central Connecticut State career. He was named to the All-NEC Second Team following his best career season in 2025-26, where he started 28 of 30 games and scored 331 points. Rodgers also holds the program’s single-season assists record with 206 in 2025-26.

The 24-year-old is Penn State’s first portal addition of the offseason after a slew of players have announced their departure from the program, including Kayden Mingo. The Nittany Lions added overseas players Roko Prkačin and François Wibaut a week ago.
