Iowa Western Community College Defensive Tackle Jordan Van Den Berg Commits To Penn State Football
Penn State football’s future defensive line just got a little thicker.
Iowa Western Community College defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg committed to James Franklin’s program Tuesday night. The big fella, who originally hails from South Africa, made it official via Twitter.
Van den Berg is labeled a class of 2022 recruit, but Franklin’s #WeAre…Better graphic indicated that the Nittany Lions added a 2021 commit Tuesday night. Whatever class he joins for the Nittany Lions, the defensive tackle could add some serious value after just one season of JUCO football.
Coming in at 6’3″ and 285 pounds, van den Berg also collected scholarship offers from Nebraska and Iowa, among others. He played his high school ball at Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, Georgia, but didn’t garner too much attention from top tier programs. Over the course of just six games played as a freshman at Iowa Western, however, van den Berg collected 20 total tackles and a sack.
The defensive tackle will help to bolster the Nittany Lions’ defensive line over the next few seasons. Penn State has grabbed edge rusher Rodney McGraw and tackle Davon Townley by way of commitments out of high school, while Arnold Ebiketie and Derrick Tangelo both transferred to Happy Valley after multiple seasons of Division One football.
