Report: Jesse James, Chris Hogan Sign With New NFL Squads

Former Penn State star athletes Jesse James and Chris Hogan have reportedly signed with new NFL teams, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

James now signs with the Chicago Bears for his seventh NFL season after two campaigns with the Detroit Lions, while Hogan joins the New Orleans Saints.

James, who was a star tight end for the Nittany Lions from 2012 to 2014, reportedly joins Chicago on a one-year deal. This past season with the Detroit Lions, the 6’7″ pass-catcher hauled in 16 receptions worth 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The tight end spent four seasons with the Steelers before his two-season stint in Detroit. Pittsburgh drafted him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft after he totaled 78 catches and 1,005 receiving yards over the course of three seasons in Happy Valley.

As for Hogan, he signs with the Saints amid a run at the Premier Lacrosse League with Cannons LC. That will presumably be put on hold as he reports to training camp with New Orleans.

Hogan famously played lacrosse and not football at Penn State, but he made a name for himself in the NFL with his breakout 2014 season with the Buffalo Bills. He put up 426 receiving yards and four touchdowns that year, and eventually signed with the New England Patriots in 2016 and was a part of their Super Bowl run.

Most recently, Hogan played part of the 2020 season for the New York Jets but was waived from the injured reserve list in December.
