Penn State Men’s Hockey Adds More Teams To 2021-22 Schedule

Even though Penn State hasn’t released its full schedule yet, four more teams now have matchups scheduled with the Nittany Lions for the upcoming 2021-22 season, according to opposing teams’ official schedules.

The Nittany Lions will host Long Island University at Pegula Ice Arena on October 3 and 4. The series presumably could be the season opener as Penn State has never opened the season in the month of September. The Nittany Lions will host Canisius later that week before welcoming Niagara on October 22 and 23, one week before its matchup with North Dakota in Nashville. The team will also travel to Minnesota to face off with St. Thomas on November 23 and 24.

Penn State has had matchups against Niagara and Canisius in prior seasons. The Nittany Lions swept Niagara in their last meeting in the 2019-20 season and hold a 6-0-1 all-time record over the Purple Eagles. Penn State also holds the edge in the all-time record over Canisius as well with a 3-0 all-time record and series sweep in their last meeting.

On the other hand, the Nittany Lions will meet LIU and St. Thomas for the first time in program history. Similar to Penn State just eight years ago, LIU is coming off its first season. The Sharks are coming off a disappointing 3-10 record.

With much of its out-of-conference schedule already put together, Penn State has yet to release its conference schedule for the upcoming season.
