Penn State Drops To No. 7 In AP Top 25 Poll

Penn State football is no longer undefeated, and the Nittany Lions have officially fallen to No. 7 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll.

James Franklin’s group was hampered by Sean Clifford’s still-unspecified second-quarter injury against Iowa Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium. The Nittany Lions never truly recovered with Ta’Quan Roberson at quarterback, and a late score by wideout Nico Ragaini gave the Hawkeyes a 23-20 win in Iowa City.

The Nittany Lions now hold a 5-1 record overall. In this week’s ranking, Franklin’s group slid behind No. 3 Cincinnati, No, 4 Oklahoma, No. 5 Alabama, and No. 6 Ohio State. Iowa now sits at No. 2 in the nation, while Georgia climbs to No. 1 following Alabama’s 41-38 loss to Texas A&M.

In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Penn State fell to No. 8.

Penn State gets a week off to deal with its myriad of injuries. From there, the Nittany Lions will take on Illinois on Saturday, October 16 for the annual Homecoming game. That contest will kick off at noon at Beaver Stadium.
