North Atherton Aldi Store To Open October 28

Aldi supermarket is set to open its first Centre County location on Thursday, October 28. The new grocery store will be located at 1798 N. Atherton Street.

It will be the first building in Patton Crossing, a nearly 30-acre development including 20 residential and commercial buildings. Patton Crossing is located across from Woodycrest Street atop the site of a former Penn State Mobile Home Park site.

The 20,422-square-foot store will be accessible from an access road off Atherton in addition to a four-way intersection with a new six-lane access road to improve traffic in the area.

“We look forward to serving the State College residents and providing them the best grocery shopping experience,” Aldi Saxonburg Division Vice President JR Perry said in a statement.

There will be 101 available paved parking spots for Aldi according to plans approved last year and 15-20 employees in the store.

Aldi, known for its discount prices, has the leading principle, “Great quality shouldn’t come at a high price; rather, great quality should come with everyday low prices.” Aldi works to maintain low costs through practices such as having customers pay for bags if they don’t bring their own and inserting quarters to use a cart.

With Aldi’s opening shortly before Halloween, customers may want to be on the lookout for some spooktacular treats, 90% of Aldi’s groceries being their own, Aldi-exclusive brand. Current seasonal Aldi’s items include Benton’s chocolate haunted house cookie kit, Barissimo Halloween coffee, Reggano Halloween pasta, Mama Cozzi’s pizza kitchen Halloween pumpkin or ghost pizza, and more.

Aldi already has a second location planned for College Township on the former Krentzman Supply site at the corner of Benner Pike and Shiloh Road, near the Sheetz and Nittany Mall. The second Aldi is will potentially be 19,209 square feet, with construction underway.
