State College Raising Cane’s Location Still Making Progress

Although it’s not open yet, a downtown Raising Cane’s location is looking closer to opening than ever before.

Over the summer, we learned that the Louisiana-based chicken fingers restaurant was planning on opening a new location at 228 E. College Ave. in downtown State College. A new sign in the storefront’s window this week says Raising Cane’s is beginning hiring efforts, perhaps signaling an opening date is closer than previously thought.

Currently, Raising Cane’s has open job listings for operations managers, general managers, and assistant general managers. Applications are available online.

Before opening for business in the 105-year-old building, Raising Cane’s needs to clear a few zoning ordinances and meet modern requirements, like compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act through an outdoor ramp.

According to its application for a building permit in May, Raising Cane’s intends to perform an estimated $1.6 million in renovations to the building’s first story. Plans still include temporary outdoor seating that won’t require a zoning variance.

A Raising Cane’s spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment on a possible opening date for the State College franchise.
