Three Nittany Lions Named Senior CLASS Award Finalists

Three Penn State student-athletes have been named finalists for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. Sean Clifford (football), Pierre Reedy (men’s soccer), and Jonni Parker (women’s volleyball) are the Nittany Lions’ representatives.

The Senior CLASS Award is annually presented to seniors across 10 different sports who show achievement in “community, classroom, character, and competition.”

Penn State football’s starting quarterback is one of the finalists. Clifford has been instrumental in his group’s success this season. The Nittany Lions did not drop a game until his unfortunate injury against Iowa in their top-five matchup.

Clifford’s 2,371 passing yards on the season place him at fourth in Penn State’s all-time career records. He trails No. 3 Zack Mills by only 109 yards. His 16 touchdowns this year put him at a firm No. 2 in all time passing touchdowns in school history. Clifford may make more headway on those fronts against Michigan this Saturday inside Beaver Stadium.

Pierre Reedy, midfielder on the men’s soccer team, is another finalist. This season, he’s been a prominent contributor due to his experience and on-field intensity. For his regular season performance, Reedy was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.

In addition to his leadership, Reedy has come up big in major statistical columns en route to Penn State’s first regular-season Big Ten title since 2013. On the year, Reedy has two goals on 25 shots and three assists. The Nittany Lions continue their path through the Big Ten Tournament this Wednesday after defeating Michigan State 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

Jonni Parker, right-side hitter for the women’s volleyball team, rounds out Penn State’s Senior CLASS finalists. As has been the case for the majority of her career, Parker has been an impressive force on the floor for the Nittany Lions. To date, Parker has recorded 346 kills, 162 digs, and 70 blocks this year. Early this season, she surpassed a career milestone of 1,000 kills.

A captain since her junior season, Parker has been a major factor in Penn State’s 17-7 season. Currently, the Nittany Lions are ranked No. 15 in the nation and will defend their win streak on November 12 at Michigan.

Penn State fans can vote for the three Nittany Lion finalists here. There is no maximum number of times one can vote.
