Reeling In The Best Fish Fries Around State College

If you’re looking for a classic Friday meal around State College, a fish fry might be exactly what you need, especially during Lent.

Throughout the area, churches, fire departments, and businesses are serving up plates of fried fish, cole slaw, fries, and more that have become a seasonal staple.

We rounded up some of the fish fries around Happy Valley so you know where to go when the craving hits.

Good Shepherd Catholic Church

Located in Port Matilda, Good Shepherd Catholic Church will be hosting its annual Lenten Fish Fries on select Fridays throughout Lent. Dinners take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for $16.

Want more than fish? Check out their macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw, or their soup of the day.

Columbia Volunteer Fire Company

Dinners at the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department in Osceola Mills are hosting fish dinners every Friday during Lent, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Meals cost $14, and customers can choose between baked fish, fried fish, or a fish and chips option. They are delivery or drive-through only, so it’s a convenient option for those who want a meal from the comfort of their own home.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic School

St. John’s Catholic Church is hosting its Lenten fish fry in Bellefonte on select Fridays, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., or until sold out. Eat in or take out, meals cost $15 or $7 for children. Dinners include an entree, three sides, and a choice of a homemade dessert. Additional items are available, like haluski and pierogies.

Nittany Catering

Nittany Catering, located at 3208 Benner Pike, Suite 111, in Bellefonte, is holding its fish fries on Fridays until March 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. While the Classic Fish Fry runs at $20, upgrade your meal for $5 for the Comfort Fish Fry. Pre-ordering is recommended!

Warriors Mark Franklin Volunteer Fire Company

Warriors Mark Fire Company is having its “Friday Fish Fry” every Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Meals are $16 for adults, $8 for kids, and free for children under five. If you have younger kids, this is the place to get an affordable meal for the family!

Nittany Valley Fire Company

This fish fry offers a variety of options, like breaded shrimp, hot and cold shrimp, beer-battered haddock, lemon-pepper haddock, and baked haddock, along with a plethora of sides like clam chowder, fries, macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, clams, and dessert. The meals cost $25 for adults, $12 for children 12 and under, and free for those two and under. Great for those who want a little bit of everything.

American Legion Post 245

Nittany American Legion Post 245 is offering a drive-through fish and chips meal every Friday during Lent. Each meal features a Yuengling battered Haddock, fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and ketchup. Orders cost $14 when paid online and can be picked up at the post located at 1950 Pine Hall Road in State College between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
