Power Ranking The Best Coffee At Penn State

Final exams are right around the corner, folks, and so are late-night study sessions, which means you might need some fuel to keep you going.

There are many different places to grab a cup of joe in the area, and it might sometimes get to be a struggle to pick a place to go. So, we decided to rank our favorite cups on campus. For this post, we tried only the standard black coffee at every place.

Now, let’s get into the rankings.

Honorable Mention: The Waffle Shop

There’s no better hangover cure than coffee from The Waffle Shop. Unfortunately, it’s rare to come here just for the coffee alone, although it does sell K-Cups and ground coffee so you can bring some of the rich, tasty coffee home with you.

9. Dunkin’

This may be a bit of a hot take, but I wasn’t too impressed with the coffee at Dunkin’ compared to what it’s hyped up to be. Sure, they do probably have some of the best iced coffee and specialty drinks, but the regular coffee was subpar at best. It’ll get the job done, but I would probably choose another place for your typical cup of joe.

8. Bagel Crust

The coffee at Bagel Crust is average, even though it also does have good iced coffee as well. I would definitely get a cup when I go for a breakfast sandwich, but I don’t think I would come here to get a cup of coffee by itself.

7. Panera Bread

Panera isn’t typically known for its coffee, but it wasn’t that bad. It certainly wasn’t great, either, but the coffee had a decent amount of taste to it and a certain aftertaste that struck a chord with me. This wouldn’t be my first choice, either, but I wouldn’t mind occasionally getting a cup from Panera.

6. Starbucks

Starbucks is one of the most solid cups of coffee you can get around here, so I don’t need to say much more about its coffee. There’s also just something about holding a cup in your hand, and that first-sip feeling that is irreplaceable. Plus, nothing can beat the holiday-themed cups.

5. Saints Cafe

This was certainly one of the hottest cups of coffee I have ever had, but it was very tasty. The vibe in the coffee shop is also great as well. Even though it’s more of an underrated spot, I recommend giving the coffee a try if you haven’t already.

4. Crust & Crumb

I was very impressed after trying the coffee here for the first time. The coffee certainly had a sweeter taste than most, but it was some of the tastiest I’ve ever had.

3. The Berkey Creamery

Ice cream isn’t the only superior product that the Creamery has, as its coffee may just be one of its most underrated items there. More specifically, I got the Happy Vally Blend since I wanted a darker roast, and it was phenomenal. The Creamery also ground coffee and K-Cups, and those who aren’t in State College can purchase them online here.

2. Irving’s

Bagel Crust may have Irving’s beat in the bagel department, but the coffee at Irving’s is just top-notch. Coming in at a close seond, this coffee is tasty and has a bit of a tang to it, and nothing can beat the feeling of getting a fresh cup and taking a seat with it inside the restaurant to get some work done.

1. Saxby’s

I may be biased because I spend most of my time in the Business Building, but the coffee at Saxby’s is as good as it gets. It has a signature taste that always leaves me wanting more, and even the cup itself has an awesome design that just makes you feel good to hold one.
