Students Teaching Students Fall 2022 Instructor Applications Now Open
Penn State’s Students Teaching Students (STS) program opened its instructor application for the fall 2022 semester this week. Applications with all required materials should be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 30.
STS has a comprehensive application guide to get those who are interested started with the STS process.
Applicants should brainstorm their course ideas, formulate a course syllabus to propose an idea, and find a faculty champion to advocate for the applicant and help them out along the way. Once those items are ready, interested students can fill out the application here.
Student instructors through the STS program design and teach credit-earning courses to their undergraduate peers. These courses range from one to three elective credits and can focus on a wide variety of topics. Courses such as “Criticism of Kanye” and “Introduction to Formula One” are just a few of the classes created by students in the STS program.
When student instructors are accepted, they’ll attend workshops and work with a coach from the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, their faculty champion, and a student advocate from the program to further develop the course, build lesson plans, and prepare for the semester of teaching.
Students can also apply to be a part of the STS team in a different way here as positions are offered on a rolling basis. Right now, the program is looking for a director of outreach, for example.
