Lady Lions To Host Annual Play4Kay Game February 6

Penn State women’s basketball will host its annual Play4Kay game on Sunday, February 6, when the team takes on the Northwestern Wildcats. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The game will benefit the PA Pink Zone’s Kay Yow Cancer Fund and honor those who are fighting and have survived breast cancer.

Additionally, the Lady Lions are competing in the annual Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge. Women’s basketball programs around the country will compete to raise money and be crowned champion. Fans can pledge money for every free throw their favorite team makes, or contribute a one-time flat donation, here.

The Play4Kay game, in partnership with the national Kay Yow Cancer Fund, raises money for research and honors Kay Yow, a legendary NC State women’s basketball coach who passed away in 2009 following a 22-year battle with breast cancer.

This year’s game will include an in-person and new online charity auction, with more than 120 items up for bid to help raise money for the organization. The auction ends during the third quarter of Sunday’s game.

The honors will begin with the new pre-game opening ceremony that will take place at 11:30 a.m. in the BJC’s South Gym. Events include an opportunity for survivors to walk the pink carpet with their family and friends, photo opportunities with the Lady Lions and fellow Penn State teams, and participation in the pre-game radio show.

Survivors will receive a PA Pink Zone Survivor t-shirt and are eligible to join on-court and half-time celebrations. There will also be specials for students attending the game, including giveaways or food, which will be announced by Penn State Athletics.

All money raised by the PA Pink Zone stays local in central Pennsylvania to directly support cancer patients and survivors. Tickets are free for students, and public tickets can be purchased for $10. As you might expect, all attendees are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
