Penn State’s John Harrar To Compete In 3X3U National Championship
Former Penn State men’s basketball forward John Harrar will play in the 2022 3X3U National Championship this weekend, the team announced on Tuesday. He’ll help represent both the Nittany Lions and the Big Ten at the three-on-three tournament.
Harrar is one of four players who will make up the “#B1GMACtion” team at the New Orleans-based tournament. His teammates, other Big Ten and Mid-American Conference (MAC) players, will be announced later this week.
From April 1 to 3 in New Orleans, 16 teams of four will go head-to-head in a series of three-on-three games, all competing for a $150,000 prize pool. Only players who no longer have NCAA eligibility are able to compete in the tournament.
The 3X3U teams will play every team in their pools starting April 1 and 2. All 16 will play in the knockout round on April 3, where the top two teams from each pool head to the quarterfinals.
Harrar and the rest of the #B1GMACtion team play against their pool starting at 2:50 p.m. on Friday, April 1 against the SEC/SoCon team. Later that day, they’ll play against the ASUN/Sun Belt team at 4:25 p.m. and against the Summit League/OVC team at 5:45 p.m.
Harrar just wrapped up his Penn State career after playing a total of 146 games, a program record. He is the first Nittany Lion in 22 years to finish a season averaging a double-double, with 10.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He is also one of only two Big Ten players to average a double-double this season.
Harrar leaves Penn State ranked No. 2 all-time in career field goal percentage at 59.6% and No. 5 all-time career rebounds with 854. He is also one of six players in program history with more than 800 career points and career rebounds.
