SPA & Opulence To Host ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Stars At April 11 Drag Show

Update, April 10: Monday’s drag show will no longer feature Ginger Minj, says SPA, as the drag queen tends to an illness that will keep her off the stage.

Instead, SPA and Opulence will bring in Ra’Jah O’Hara, another drag queen, to host in Minj’s place. O’Hara competed on season 11 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and later returned to the program’s sixth “All-Stars” season.

Original Story: Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA) will host “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars Ginger Minj and Peppermint for a free drag show at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11, in the HUB’s Alumni Hall. SPA is working with Penn State’s Opulence, the premier Drag Ambassadors Club on campus, to host the event.

Ginger Minj is well known for her music, comedy, and film ventures. She first rose to fame doing comedy in Orlando, Florida, and branched out to music in 2016 with her debut album, “Sweet Tea”. In 2021, she released her second album, “Gummy Bear”.

Minj was a finalist on the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and later returned in the second and sixth “All-Stars” seasons. She also acts in films like Netflix’s “Dumplin'”.

Peppermint, meanwhile, finished as the runner-up on the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. She was the first out trans contestant to compete in the show. Additionally, she was the first trans woman to originate a principal role on Broadway.

To date, Peppermint has raised more than $100,000 for the Human Rights Campaign and remains involved in the fight against AIDS and HIV.

Like every SPA event, April 11’s drag show is free for Penn State students and funded by their student-initiated fee.

On Wednesday, Penn State’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity put on a drag show in the HUB to celebrate Campus Pride Month. Check out our preview to learn more about events and programming throughout the month-long celebration.
