Planet Fitness To Open In Former Fraser Street H&M Location

A Planet Fitness gym is expected to open in downtown State College sometime soon.

According to Planet Fitness’s website, a second State College location will open at 118 S. Fraser Street in the former location of H&M. After almost five years in business, H&M’s retail store in the borough closed for good in September.

Planet Fitness is one of the largest fitness club franchises in the nation with more than 2,000 clubs sprinkled throughout the country. It prides itself as an affordable gym that fosters a welcoming, non-intimidating environment.

Another State College Planet Fitness is located at 2901 E. College Ave. near the Nittany Mall. There, a “classic” plan costs $10 a month and gives members unlimited access to the club’s facilities. Members can upgrade to the “Black Card” plan for $23 a month to access any club and receive added perks, including access to the tanning beds and unlimited guest visits. It’s unclear how much the downtown location’s plans will cost, but they figure to be similar to the Nittany Mall’s.

According to Planet Fitness’s website, a pre-grand opening sale is “coming soon” in addition to the location’s club hours.

Planet Fitness is one of many spots opening downtown in recent weeks. Lupita’s, an authentic Mexican spot, just opened on Beaver Avenue, while Antifragile Brewing Company, the borough’s first-ever brewery, will have a soft opening on East Calder Way at the end of the week. Poke Fresh, a Hawaiian poke bowl place, is also expected to open in the same shopping center sometime soon.

We’ll update this post with more information as it becomes available.
