Four-Star Safety DaKaari Nelson Commits To Penn State Football

Another day, another commit for the Nittany Lions.

Four-star safety DaKaari Nelson verbally committed to Penn State’s Class of 2023 Saturday afternoon. He becomes the Class of 2023’s third defensive back, joining Conrad Hussey and Lamont Payne.

Head coach James Franklin again snatched a recruit away from schools in closer proximity, as Nelson (a Selma, Alabama native) selected Penn State over Clemson, Auburn, and Tennessee, among others.

Continuing another trend, Nelson is also the third defensive recruit to commit over the last eight days, after Tomarrion Parker and Tyriq Blanding committed four and eight days ago, respectively.

The 6’3″, 203-pound safety is the No. 15 prospect in Alabama and is ranked 23rd among the entire nation’s safeties, according to 247Sports. At Selma High School, Nelson doubled as both a safety and a wide receiver.

Nelson is not only the 15th member of Penn State’s Class of 2023, but he is also the tenth commit ranked as a four-star or higher. The Nittany Lions’ group ranks No. 3 in the country and No. 2 in the Big Ten, trailing only Ohio State.
