Trace McSorley To Start Preseason Game For Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed that former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley will start for the team in its first preseason game on Friday against the Bengals.

McSorley signed with the Cardinals in November of 2021 and will get the start on Friday after the Cardinals announced they’re resting starting quarterback Kyler Murray and backup Colt McCoy.

The Cardinals dealt with some unrest in the quarterback room this offseason, with rising star Kyler Murray expressing some dissatisfaction about his pay, before signing a five-year, $230 million contract in July. However, McSorley has an opportunity to prove his value as a potential backup quarterback in this preseason opener.

According to Arizona Cardinals reporter Bo Brack, McSorley has received a significant amount of snaps in training camp, especially considering how limited Murray has been.

The Virginia native had a legendary career at Penn State, setting records and finishing with 31 wins and 9,899 passing yards. Before his time with the Cardinals, McSorley was on the Baltimore Ravens’ roster for multiple years, including some increased playing time in 2020.

McSorley will start for the Arizona Cardinals in their first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
