Report: Ta’Quan Roberson Named UConn’s Starting Quarterback

Former Penn State football quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson has reportedly been named UConn football’s starting quarterback Saturday morning.

Roberson will get the start against Utah State today, August 27, in UConn’s first game of the season, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Roberson transferred from Penn State in December amid Sean Clifford’s return and the arrivals of Drew Allar and Beau Pribula. The report Saturday morning makes Roberson the second quarterback transfer to earn a starting job elsewhere this season, along with Will Levis at Kentucky.

In his Penn State career, Roberson appeared in four games, three of which that came during the 2021 season. Roberson’s most notable performance came in Penn State’s top-four matchup against Iowa in October.

When Clifford went down with an injury, Roberson stepped into the high-stakes conference duel. Inheriting the game with a lead, Roberson only completed 7-of-21 passes, including seven straight incompletions to end the fourth quarter. Roberson finished the 23-20 loss with 34 passing yards and two interceptions.

UConn’s season-opener against Utah State will kick off at 4 p.m. today and will be televised on FS1.
