Penn State Women’s Soccer Player Mieke Schiemann Receives Weekly Awards

Mieke Schiemann continuing to stand out, folks.

The Penn State women’s soccer defender was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the Women’s National Team of the Week.

Schiemann earned the distinctions after her performances against West Virginia and Monmouth, in which she recorded a combined two goals and one assist, helping the Nittany Lions win both matchups.

The German’s efforts are part of a breakout season, in which she’s started every match. While Schiemann did appear in 16 matches in her freshman season, the difference between 2021 to 2022 has been palpable for the Nittany Lions.

Schiemann and her teammates will take a road trip to California in the coming week, with a match against Stanford at 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, followed by another with Santa Clara at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 4.
