Penn State-Michigan Slated For ‘Big Noon Kickoff’
Big Noon Kickoff strikes again.
No. 10 Penn State football’s October 15 road matchup against No. 4 Michigan will kick off at noon on FOX, as announced by the program on Monday.
This will be Penn State’s third noon kickoff so far this season. Most notably, the Nittany Lions’ home game with Ohio State has been rumored to have a noon start because of FOX’s campaign to compete with ESPN’s College Gameday.
Penn State-Michigan was also rumored to have a noon start time after FOX college football commentator Joel Klatt alluded that his team would cover the game. As one of the commentators for FOX’s ‘Big Noon Saturday’ window alongside Gus Johnson, fans and pundits speculated the game would also receive the Big Noon treatment.
During this year’s Big Ten matchup, Michigan is asking its fan to participate in a “Maize Out.” As the only American stadium larger than Beaver Stadium, the Big House’s all-yellow appearance will likely be Penn State’s most imposing color-out opponent in 2022.
Last season, Penn State hosted Michigan in a 21-17 nail-biter, which the Nittany Lions ultimately lost. With Michigan and Penn State respectively listed at No. 4 and No. 10 in the latest AP poll, this year’s contest will be another ranked matchup. Under James Franklin, the Nittany Lions are 3-5 against the Wolverines — though all three wins have come in the last five years, including the classic “Mo Bamba” timeout game.
The Nittany Lions are currently 5-0 on the season. The Wolverines are Penn State’s third conference matchup so far this year after playing Purdue in week one and Northwestern in week five.
