Penn State Men’s Soccer Earns Multiple Big Ten Postseason Awards
Just before Penn State men’s soccer heads into its Big Ten quarterfinals match at Indiana later today, the Nittany Lions racked in several Big Ten postseason awards.
Forward Pete Mangione and midfielder Seth Kuhn both earned first-team All-Big Ten. Mangione earned the selection with a unanimous vote, making this his second time with the honor.
Mangione leads the team in goals this season and has been a key player in Penn State’s offensive strategy. The same goes for Kuhn, who is notorious for creating depth on the field and sending carefully calculated balls to a stacked forward line.
Forward Liam Butts and defender Femi Awodesu collected All-Big Ten second-team.
Butts was out for several games mid-season, yet he was still integral in tallying points for the Nittany Lions. His performance against Northwestern showcased just how special of a player he is. Awodesu was on the Big Ten Preseason Watch List. His speed and technical skills are a huge asset to the backline.
True freshman Matthew Henderson and redshirt freshman Ben Liscum were named to the All-Freshman team.
Henderson has been a huge support for Penn State’s defense and offense, assisting three goals this season. His chemistry with Awodesu and other key defenders like Olu Ogunwale creates a back line that’s nearly unbreakable. Liscum’s presence at the top of the field was a constant threat to all the opponents he faced in his 14 games played. On top of the All-Freshman team, Liscum was awarded Penn State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
