Anna Nasset To Host Stalking Awareness Month Discussion January 23

Penn State Student Affairs will welcome keynote speaker Anna Nasset for an open conversation on Stalking Awareness Month at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 23, in the HUB’s Flex Theater.

Nasset will speak about her unwanted stalking experience, leading to a discussion about recognizing stalking and how to properly respond and report specific behaviors. She will also bring to light how to support stalking survivors.

January is nationally known as Stalking Awareness Month. According to Stalking Prevention, Awareness, & Resource Center (SPARC), individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 experience the highest rate of stalking, with 45% of stalking including unwanted voice or text messages.

Nasset is the owner of Stand Up Resources, “which provides training on stalking, sexual assault, victim services, suicide awareness, workplace culture, bystander prevention and more.”

She’s also a victim of stalking by a man she doesn’t know but turns her experience into activism and outreach. Nasset’s stalker received 10 years in prison, which is the maximum sentence for aggravated felony stalking.

She now focuses on “standing up and speaking up” to educate others on stalking, sex-related crimes, trauma, empowerment, and more.

This event is free for all Penn State students and requires no prior registration.
