Penn State Hoops’ Jameel Brown Enters Transfer Portal

Another day, another Nittany Lion in the transfer portal.

Freshman combo guard Jameel Brown confirmed his entrance into the portal Wednesday morning after it was originally reported by Verbal Commits.

Brown’s playing time was limited in his first year of collegiate ball and the majority of his minutes were cashed in during non-conference play. He averaged 4.6 minutes per game over 14 appearances and averaged one rebound and 0.9 points per game. Brown maintained an average 18.8% field goal conversion rate, a 14.3% conversion clip from three, and shot 80% from the line.

The 6’4″, three-star Norristown, Pennsylvania, native was ranked as the No. 5 player coming out of the state and the No. 20 player combo guard nationally, according to 247Sports. Brown originally committed to Purdue in December 2020 but de-committed from the program three months later.

The combo guard accepted his offer from Penn State in August 2021 despite offers from Richmond, Auburn, Temple, Minnesota, and others.

Brown joins a growing list of Nittany Lions that are considering leaving the program following Micah Shrewsberry’s departure. He joins Evan Mahaffey, Caleb Dorsey, and Dallion Johnson in the transfer portal. Meanwhile, Class of 2023 signees Carey Booth and Logan Imes each requested to be released from the program.
