Penn State’s Piazza Center Partners With Hazing Prevention Network To Form Hazing Prevention Symposium

The Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research and Reform at Penn State and the Hazing Prevention Network have partnered to create a Hazing Prevention Symposium that’ll take place this summer in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The symposium, which is supported by the National Federation of High School Associations, will take place from June 11 to 13 at the NCAA Hall of Champions and Conference Center. The events offer spaces where scholars and leaders pledge their commitment to ending hazing while interacting and collaborating with each other.

The Piazza Center will act as the principal adviser for hazing researchers and curate the 2023 Hazing Symposium. Sessions will be centered around understanding and preventing hazing at the individual, organizational, and community levels. The Piazza Center also supports the Hazing Prevention Institute and the HPN and Prevent Zone’s Hazing Advocate Prevention Certification, aimed to strengthen active bystanders.

The Piazza Center and the Hazing Prevention Network (HPN) are united in their mission to educate people on professional practice and provide professional development. Todd Shelton, HPN’s executive director, explained how the partnership will expand on research-informed practice in ending hazing.

“Stevan and the Piazza Center are doing crucial work and research related to hazing.” Todd Shelton, HPN’s executive director, said.

HPN is an international non-profit organization that aims to prevent hazing and empower people through advocacy, education, and resources. The group has been visible as a part of National Hazing Prevention Week, the Hazing Prevention Institute, and providing thousands of individuals and communities with educational online courses.
