Penn State men’s hockey commits Jaxon Cover and Pierce Mbuyi will compete in the 2026 NHL Combine starting on June 1, according to the 2026 NHL Combine List posted on NHL.com on Friday. Penn State standout Gavin McKenna will also be there.

Cover is a four-star winger currently playing for the London Knights in the OHL. The George Town, Cayman Islands, native scored 20 goals and 32 assists for 52 points during the regular season, and added another goal and two assists in the first round of the playoffs. The left-handed winger committed to Penn State on April 10.

Another winger, Mbuyi is ranked as a five-star prospect. He committed to Penn State after recording 52 points on 29 goals for the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL. The 2024-25 OHL Rookie of the Year is going to return to the Attack next season, but will likely join the Nittany Lions in 2027.

Mbuyi is ranked the No. 56 NHL Draft prospect by NHL.com and has been mocked as high as the early second round. Cover is ranked No. 29.

The NHL Combine consists of one-on-one interviews with teams, medical examinations, and 12 fitness tests.

“The NHL Combine is the final showcase event before the NHL draft and it’s a week full of interviews, medicals, and fitness testing where the players get to interact with NHL personnel and the NHL clubs get to learn as much as possible about the future stars of our game,” NHL Central Scouting vice president and director Dan Marr said.
