Report: Temple Forward Zach Hicks Transfers To Penn State Hoops

Former Temple small forward Zach Hicks has reportedly committed to Penn State men’s basketball, per CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.

The 6’7″ transfer will arrive in Happy Valley with two years of eligibility remaining, if made official.

“The main thing with Penn State was my connection with the coaches,” Hicks told Rothstein. “The environment was away from things in its own little world. There’s no distractions. I can just go there and play basketball.”

Hicks committed to Temple in September 2020 over offers from Richmond, Siena, Missouri, La Salle, and Drexel as a three-star prospect. He ranked as the ninth-highest recruit out of New Jersey and the 62nd-best power forward in the country at the time.

Hicks appeared in 28 of the Owls’ 29 games and averaged 21.4 minutes on the floor as a freshman. Across his rookie campaign, he registered an average of 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and led Temple in three-point conversions.

Hicks recorded 10 triples in Temple’s December 2021 date with Delaware State to break the school record and surpass the most three-pointers by a Division I freshman since 2018.

In Hicks’ second year in Philadelphia, he started in and appeared in all 32 of the Owls’ matchups. The sophomore shot 35.1% from three and averaged 9.6 points, 1.6 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. He knocked down a season-high 20 points on 16 field goal attempts against Vanderbilt in November 2022.

Hicks will reportedly join transfers Ace Baldwin Jr. and Nick Kern on newly hired head coach Mike Rhoades’ roster. Kanye Clary and Demetrius Lilley are the only remaining scholarship players that haven’t entered the transfer portal. Jameel Brown entered the portal last month but recently announced that he’s staying with the Nittany Lions.

“Many of the individuals who orchestrated this dangerous precedent campaigned on transparency, fairness, equity, and a change of organizational culture. None of those values were present on April 23, the night the president was impeached.”
