Penn State Men’s Soccer Adds Three Signees To 2023 Roster

Ahead of the 2023 season, Penn State men’s soccer picked up three important signings to continue to fill out its roster.

Defenders Diego Diaz, Morgan Marshall, and midfielder Freddie Bell pledged to the Nittany Lions throughout the spring and will join the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2023.

Diaz, hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, played for Club Deportivo Guadalajara Chivas for the last five years at a near-professional caliber. At center back, Diaz rostered at several levels during his time with Chivas, including the U-15, U-17, U-18, and U-23 teams.

“Diego arrives in Happy Valley after an outstanding career at one of the most famous clubs in Mexico, Chivas Guadalajara,” head coach Jeff Cook said in a release. “Diego is a determined and tough defender whose leadership qualities are clear to see when you watch him play and are emphasized by the fact that he has served at the U-18 team captain for the last two seasons.”

Marshall will join Diaz on the defensive line from Lexington, Kentucky. An MLS Academy player, Marshall has played with on academy teams Salt Lake Academy and Cincinnati FC Academy.

Marshall solidified himself as a versatile player, making appearances with the FC Cincinnati II reserve team at defense and midfield.

Bell rounds out the spring recruits and will arrive in Happy Valley after departing Surrey, England. The midfielder will don the blue and white following six years in a Premier League academy. Bell competed with the Crystal Palace Academy as high as the U-21 level and served as the U-18 team captain.

“Freddie Bell brings a wealth of experience with him from his time at the highest level of youth soccer in England, representing Crystal Palace as their team captain,” Cook said. “We’ve been so impressed with his maturity, knowledge of the game and competitive nature. We are delighted that he has chosen to continue his athletic and academic career at Penn State.”

Diaz, Marshall, and Bell will likely bring experience and talent to the Nittany Lions’ roster alongside the Class of 2023’s six other signees. Samson Kpardeh, Tyler Flynn, Caden Grabfelder, Ben Madore, Conor Clair, Fredrick Grundin, and Mohamed Cisset round out the recruiting class.
