Penn State Football Defensive End Smith Vilbert Out For 2023 Season

Penn State football defensive end Smith Vilbert has been ruled out for the 2023 season, a Penn State Athletics spokesperson confirmed to Onward State Sunday. Vilbert’s unavailability was first reported by The Athletic’s Audrey Snyder.

Vilbert, a redshirt senior, was set to enter his fifth season at Penn State, though he missed most of the 2022 season for an undisclosed reason and only appeared against Utah in the Rose Bowl. He’s played in 18 games throughout his collegiate career, recording eight total tackles and three sacks.

All three of Vilbert’s sacks came in the 2022 Outback Bowl against Arkansas, and are tied for the fifth-most sacks in a bowl game in Penn State history.
