Nick Singleton & Kaytron Allen Named To Doak Walker Award Watch List

Penn State football running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen were named to the Doak Walker Award watch list Wednesday. The award honors college football’s best running back.

Singleton and Allen split running back duties as true freshmen last season. Singleton rushed for 1,061 yards and 12 touchdowns over 156 carries, appearing in all 13 games last season. He became the 16th Nittany Lion to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.

Singleton was also named to watch lists for the Maxwell Award, which is presented to the most outstanding player in college football, and the Paul Hornung Award, which is presented to the most versatile player in college football.

Allen rushed for 867 yards and 10 touchdowns over 167 carries last season, also appearing in every game. In Penn State’s 45-14 win over Indiana, Allen rushed for three touchdowns, the first time a Penn State freshman had done so since 2003.

Texas’ Bijan Robinson took home the award last season. Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor, who won twice in 2018 and 2019, are the most recent recipients from the Big Ten.

The only Nittany Lion to win the award was Larry Johnson in 2002 when he rushed for 2,087 yards and 20 touchdowns over 271 carries.
