Penn State Residence Halls To Transition To Digital Key Entry By 2025
The days of losing your dorm key will soon be over.
Penn State Auxiliary and Business Services announced the transition of all Penn State residence halls from manual key entry to digital locks by 2025 across all university dorms.
The new locks will require students to use their Penn State id+ cards to enter their rooms, similar to how students enter their residence hall buildings. The digital locks have already been installed in 13 residence halls in East Halls.
“Penn State is committed to providing the most comfortable, convenient, and safe living experience for students,” Conal Carr, the executive director of capital and facilities planning said in a release. “These new locks will enhance safety on campus and enrich the experience for more than 7,300 Penn State students this academic year, with that number to grow considerably in the years ahead.”
Penn State said it expects the project to take three years to convert all residence hall locks across the university. Pollock Halls, however, will instead be converted to digital locks on its own renovation schedule.
As always, Penn Staters can manage their id+ cards online, or in person at the id+ card office in the HUB.
