Penn State Women’s Volleyball Rises To No. 12 In AVCA Poll

Following a massively successful weekend at the Penn State Invitational at Rec Hall, Penn State women’s volleyball climbed to No. 12 in the AVCA Division I Coaches poll Monday.

The Nittany Lions rose in the rankings from No. 14 after falling six points from the preseason poll.

After beginning the season 0-2, the Nittany Lions had an explosive weekend with three consecutive wins over No. 22 Western Kentucky, Colgate, and James Madison. Across the weekend, Penn State only dropped two sets.

Big Ten teams dominate the top 15 spots of the AVCA ranking. Wisconsin held onto the top spot for the second week, while Nebraska maintained the No. 4 spot. Minnesota, Penn State, and Ohio State round out the top 15 at 10, 12, and 15, respectively.

Penn State will open Big Ten play against Rutgers at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, at Rec Hall.

Amid Big Ten play, the blue and white will also face off with No. 2 Louisville on Sunday, September 10. The following weekend will bring a match against UMBC, whom the Nittany Lions faced in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
