Penn State To Host Military Appreciation Week Events Beginning November 3

To honor military service members, veterans, and their families, Penn State is set to host a series of events from November 3 to 11 for the 12th annual celebration of Military Appreciation Week.

Following this past Saturday’s win over Indiana in the annual Military Appreciation Game, festivities continue to next week. Celebrations include multiple events, with a Veterans Day ceremony and the week wrapping up with the Marine Corps Ball at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.

All events, unless otherwise stated, will be free and open to the public. Check out the full list of events below.

“Top Gun: Maverick” Showing — 7 p.m. on Friday, November 3

Join the Penn State Military Appreciation committee to start the festivities with a special showing of the movie “Top Gun: Maverick” at the State Theatre downtown.

The committee will host a social beginning at 7 p.m., and the movie will start at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event will cost $15 for adults and $11 for students. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the Penn State Military Student Fund. Tickets can be purchased here.

Freedom 5K Race — Sunday, November 5

Starting at the Pattee Mall, the Freedom 5K registration will begin at 10 a.m., and the race will begin at 10:30 a.m. Proceeds from the event will support veterans following their service. The race is free to participate in, however, donations for Operation Red Wings Foundation will be accepted, too. Race registration is required here.

“Ask A Veteran” Panel — 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7

The Pennsylvania State University Veterans Organization is slated to host a community panel featuring veterans, military-connected students, and the organization’s executive board.

Military Appreciation Luncheon — Noon on Wednesday, November 8

Penn State-affiliated military members, veterans, and families can grab a free meal in the Hintz Alumni Center from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8. The Penn State Military Appreciation committee will honor United States Army Major Phillip Ealy as the luncheon’s guest speaker. RSVPs are required and must be submitted here by Wednesday, November 1.

Veterans Day Ceremony — 11:11 a.m. on Friday, November 10

To finish the week of events, join the Penn State community for a Veterans Day Ceremony honoring those who have served in the armed forces. The event will take place in front of the Old Main steps beginning at 11:11 a.m. and will conclude at noon.
