Six Penn State Soccer Stars Earn All-Region Honors

Penn State men’s and women’s soccer each earned three All-Region distinctions after the conclusion of the collegiate season.

On the men’s side, Peter Mangione received his third All-North Region honor and was placed on the first team. Mangione made an appearance in all 19 matches for the Nittany Lions, leading the team in goals with 10 and points with 24.

Two others also made the All-North Region first team in the brick-wall duo of Kris Shakes and Femi Awodesu. Shakes led the Big Ten conference with 64 saves and a .810 save percentage, while Awodesu used his speed a defensive intelligence to shut down opposing attackers from both the center back and holding midfielder positions.

Midfielder Cori Dyke and defender Kate Wiesner led the way for the women’s side and both made the All-North Region first team. Dyke and Wiesner both delivered consistently for the Nittany Lions, leading one of the best defenses in the Big Ten to just 0.65 goals against per game.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Katherine Asman made an appearance on the All-North Region third team. Asman led the Big Ten in save percentage with .856 and saves with 83.

Both teams found postseason play to be difficult but very productive regular seasons leave a good taste in any fan’s mouth heading into the offseason. While many of the soccer stars in Happy Valley will be moving on after this year, the future for both programs is strong.
