[Photo Story] HUB Gallery’s ‘Access Excess’ Exhibit

I️f you end up on the second floor of the HUB, there are beautiful pieces of artwork on display from now until March 2024.

“Access Excess” is a collection of painting and decorations that show what “good” taste looks like. Amy Boone-McCreesh takes different colors, materials, and ideas to express access to luxury spaces, goods, and personal comfort.

Upon walking into the gallery, folks are met with a piece of artwork that looks like red curtains. Looking closer, there’s plenty of interesting items hanging together.

Chains of plastic spoons, forks, and knives are intertwined within the curtain, and as you look closer, more and more unique items appear.

Beads, scratch-off tickets, and plastic keys are also treaded into the chains.

Around the room, there are abstract pictures full of different colors, shapes, and textures. Some even have keys hanging from the frame.

Even seating stools are lined with fringe and touches of keys, a common theme throughout her pieces.

Boone-McCreesh attended Towson University, and her work has been featured in galleries in New York, Denver, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Now, she serves as an assistant professor of art and art history at Dickinson College.
