Penn State Men’s Soccer Adds Two Goalkeepers To 2024 Roster
Penn State men’s soccer’s season ended just over a month ago, but it’s already been busy preparing for next year.
The Nittany Lions announced the signing of goalkeepers Andrew Cooke and Jonathan Evans Thursday.
Cooke is a transfer from Colgate where he has played for the last four years. He has registered a save percentage of .699 and made 123 saves over 40 appearances. The veteran goalkeeper will make the trek to Happy Valley in January after graduating from Colgate this month.
“We look forward to welcoming Andrew to Penn State, he is a highly experienced goalkeeper who had great success at Colgate,” head coach Jeff Cook said. “Andrew brings a great presence in goal. He is very effective at dealing with crosses and we are looking forward to adding his talent and leadership to our men’s soccer program.”
Evans will join the Nittany Lions in the fall after he graduates from YSC Academy in the spring. He played for the Philadelphia Union Academy program in the MLS Next for six years and was called up to the Union II league in the MLS Next Pro League during that time.
Evans helped guide his team to several championships, most recently the 2023 U17 Generation Adidas Cup.
“Jonathan is a goalkeeper from the Philadelphia Union Academy who we have seen develop greatly over the last couple of years as we have recruited him,” Cook said. “We feel he has excellent potential and can come into our program and elevate the overall depth and quality of our goalkeeping position.”
Cooke and Evans will likely be strong additions to the goalkeeper depth at Penn State after current No. 1 Kris Shakes graduates. The remaining goalkeeper room includes sophomore Ryan Aiken and freshman Fredrick Grundin.
