Report: Penn State Football Wide Receiver Dante Cephas Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State football wide receiver Dante Cephas has reportedly entered the transfer portal, 247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz reported Wednesday night.

Cephas’ decision comes after not playing a snap in the Peach Bowl despite being suited up on the sideline. James Franklin said “open competition” was the reason the wide receiver didn’t see any playing time.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native transferred from Kent State in January ahead of the 2023 season. During his last two seasons at Kent State, Cephas recorded 1,984 yards and 12 touchdowns with 130 receptions.

Cephas didn’t come close to matching that production at Penn State and managed only 22 receptions for 246 yards this season. The wideout only found the end zone twice during the 2023 campaign with both scores coming during the contest against Maryland in early November.

Cephas is the fifth Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal and only the second player to enter outside of opening day. In addition to Cephas, the Nittany Lions have lost Cristian Driver, Alex Bacchetta, Jace Tutty, and Jake Wilson to the portal. Penn State’s additions through the portal so far are Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer and wide receiver Julian Fleming.
