Putting 6,350 Hot Dogs Into Perspective

Penn State students love hot dogs. Some students just come to baseball games because of the hot dogs. Onward State loves hot dogs.

On Tuesday, fans ate 6,350 hot dogs at Penn State baseball’s game against St. Bonaventure. With fans eating that many hot dogs in the cold weather, we wanted to put that number into perspective.

108.9 Pigs Would Have To Die

There’s very little scientific information about how many hot dogs you can make from one pig. However, according to Mill River Farm, a single pig produced 17.5 pounds of sausage, a similar product. A Johnsonville hot dog weighs 3.2 oz, and a single Bimbo hot dog bun weighs 1.6 oz. That means a single dog/bun combo is 0.3 pounds, so you can get 58.3 hot dogs from one pig. So 6,350 divided by 58.3 is 108.9 pigs. 108.9 pigs died to feed Penn State baseball fans.

2,349,500 Calories Consumed

Johnsonville says one of its hot dogs is 260 calories, and Bimbo says one bun is 110 calories. So three hundred and seventy calories multiplied by 6,350 hot dogs…

2,900.6 Pints Of Grilled Sticky Creamery Ice Cream

A pint of grilled sticky ice cream from Berkey Creamery is 810 calories. Divide the total number of hot dog calories by the caloric intake of a pint of ice cream, and you’ll find that you’d have to eat 2,900.6 of them to eat as many calories as baseball fans ate on Tuesday.

15,558.6 Miles

The answer to this question would change with every person. But we’ll go with a 160-pound person.

A 160-pound person should burn about 151 calories per mile, per Health. We’ve already figured out that there are 2,349,500 calories in all those hot dogs, so it would take a 160lb person 15,558.6 miles to burn off those calories.

2 Laps Around The Hub

According to Hot Dog Chicago Style, a normal hot dog is 6 inches. So all of these hot dogs together would be 38,100 inches, or 3,175 feet, or 0.6 miles.

If you put them all together and line them up, you would be able to go around the hub twice.
