Nittany Lions In The NFL: Conference Championship Weekend Roundup

This is it, folks. After 272 regular season games and 12 playoff games, there’s one game remaining: the Super Bowl.

A Nittany Lion will represent both the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, which guarantees a Nittany Lion will become a Super Bowl champion this year.

However, it was a quiet weekend for Penn Staters. Let’s take a look at the Nittany Lions who recorded stats and the ones who will be representing the blue and white in the Super Bowl.

Donovan Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

After starting 12 regular-season games and missing five due to a neck injury, offensive tackle Donovan Smith started for the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason and will head back to the Super Bowl after knocking out the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship. He will make his second Super Bowl appearance after winning the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020-21 season.

Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens

After accounting for one assisted tackle in the divisional round, linebacker Odafe Oweh struggled once again as he only recorded one tackle during the Ravens’ 17-10 loss to the Chiefs Sunday. Despite a tough ending to his season, Oweh had a good year overall with the Ravens, recording 20 solo tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles during the regular season.

Dan Chisena, Baltimore Ravens

Despite not having a big role on the Ravens this season, wide receiver Dan Chisena played an important part for the Ravens on special teams this week after being elevated from the practice squad. He recorded two tackles, one of which was a solo tackle, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jordan Stout, Baltimore Ravens

After punting four times with an average of 42.3 yards in the divisional round, punter Jordan Stout had more work cut out for him in the AFC Championship game as the Ravens struggled to find their groove on offense. He punted five times for a 50.2-yard average with a long punt of 66 yards in Baltimore’s loss.

Kevin Givens, San Francisco 49ers

Despite not recording any stats for the San Francisco 49ers in their comeback win against the Detroit Lions, defensive tackle Kevin Givens will represent Penn State in the Super Bowl. During the regular season, Givens recorded 13 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Ji’Ayir Brown, San Francisco 49ers

After having a stellar rookie season, safety Ji’Ayir Brown will represent the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl alongside Givens. During the 49ers’ 34-31 victory over the Lions, Brown made a huge impact for the 49ers as he recorded five solo tackles and five assisted tackles.
