Penn State Men’s Hockey To Host Second Annual Sled Hockey Classic February 3

For the second year in a row, Penn State men’s hockey will scrimmage the State College Coyotes in a sled hockey classic at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, at Pegula Ice Arena.

The State College Coyotes practice sled hockey, which is commonly played in the Paralympic Games and is an adaptive variation of hockey intended for folks with physical disabilities.

After a successful inaugural event last year, Dylan Lugris, who was nominated for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award, and the rest of the Nittany Lions organized and planned the event’s return to Pegula.

“They have a lot of emotion and they really take pride in that,” head coach Guy Gadowsky said. “The fact that Dylan took it upon himself to try to do this is impressive. When he asked me to do it, I said, ‘Yeah go ahead,’ never thinking he could pull it off [last year]. When he did, it was awesome.”

The event is a group effort as members of the team play or emcee while captain Christian Berger will officiate the game.

“It’s so awesome to see the guys be passionate about the community,” Berger said.

The doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for warmups and the 25-minute scrimmage will commence at 9:45 a.m. Pegula Ice Arena will offer an open-skate event following the exhibition and free rental skates will be available.
