Power Ranking ‘Did You Know’ Fun Facts Learned At Penn State Wrestling’s BJC Dual

Penn State wrestling took on Rutgers on Monday night in its annual match in the Bryce Jordan Center. During pre-match warmups, numerous Nittany Lions showcased their best fun facts on the jumbotron.

The fun facts didn’t disappoint and provided some insight into a typically tight-lipped program. Here are a few of our favorites.

1. “Did you know Levi Haines began wrestling when he was in kindergarten?”

Levi Haines is the top-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds for a reason. I don’t remember much about kindergarten, but I do know I couldn’t tie my shoes. The fact that you were hitting half-nelsons before I took the training wheels off my bike is funny to think about. Due to your dedication to the game, Levi, you get a solid 8.8/10.

2. “Did you know Beau Bartlett is the team’s locker room barber and cuts his own hair?”

Up next, Beau Bartlett revealed he brings a valuable skill to the locker room. Now, I can’t speak for any of his clients, but Beau always has a fresh cut when he appears on the Resilite mats. It takes courage to cut your teammates’ hair, much less your own, so this one deserves a nice 8.1/10.

3. “Did you know Mitchell Mesenbrink loves the beach & lakes? A perfect day, other than wrestling, would be spent on a boat enjoying the water or at the beach.”

Mitchell, we get it you really, really like the beach. This fun fact isn’t as impressive as cutting hair or solving a Rubik’s cube, but it’s relatable content, so it makes the list. If you’re down, let’s hit the beach sometime and go boogie boarding. 7.3/10.

4. “Did you know Shayne Van Ness is an avid reader and enjoys cooking?”

This fun fact screams “homebody,” which I can respect. I am not much of a “reading for pleasure” type of guy, but I appreciate that you feed your brain. I am beyond curious about what you cook because I can’t seem to get past “cooking” my famous buttered toast. Consider making a cooking channel this offseason, Shayne. I like this fun fact, but it lacks detail, so I give it a 4.6/10.

5. “Did you know Bernie Truax can solve a Rubik’s cube in under 30 seconds?”

Bernie Truax made a claim that’s hard to believe. This feels like one of those things you would say, “The cameras weren’t on,” when folks ask for proof. Bernie, if you can prove this, you’ll get an 8.9 rating. Until then, a 4.2/10 rating will have to suffice.

The top-ranked Nittany Lions will wrestle again on at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 18, against No. 5 Nebraska in Rec Hall.
