What To Do In Philly Over Spring Break

Does anyone else need a break?

If you do, you’re in luck. Spring break is nearly here, which means many of Penn State’s students will return to the Philadelphia area. While some will be headed to Philadelphia International Airport to board their flights to Cancun or Fort Lauderdale, many will be staying behind in the City of Brotherly Love looking for things to do.

In case you’re one of those people, we’ve compiled a list of the best things to do in Philly this spring break. Take a look.

Sports

Philadelphia Flyers

Perhaps the hottest team in Philadelphia this year, the Flyers have two home games over spring break. Tickets can still be found online for both games.

  • Philadelphia Flyers vs Ottowa Senators – 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2
  • Philadelphia Flyers vs St. Louis Blues – 7 p.m. on Monday, March 4

Philadelphia Sixers

Even though the Sixers are without reigning MVP Joel Embiid due to injury, other stars like Tyrese Maxey and recent pickup Kyle Lowry still make the team fun to watch. During the break, the Sixers host three teams at the Wells Fargo Center. Tickets to all three games can be purchased online.

  • Philadelphia 76ers vs Charlotte Hornets – 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1
  • Philadelphia 76ers vs Memphis Grizzlies – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6
  • Philadelphia 76ers vs New Orleans Pelicans – 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8

Philadelphia Union

Coming off of its first-round victory over Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions League this week, the Philadelphia Union will host two home matches during spring break, including a round of 16 home match in the CONCACAF Champions League.* Tickets are available on the Union’s website.

  • *Philadelphia Union vs. CF Pachuca – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5
  • Philadelphia Union vs. Seattle Sounders – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9

College Basketball

There are a number of great college basketball matchups in Philadelphia as the season wraps up. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best games below.

  • Penn vs. Cornell – 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1
  • Saint Joseph’s vs. Fordham – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2
  • Tulsa vs. Temple – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2
  • LaSalle vs. George Washington – 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2
  • Penn vs. Columbia – 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2
  • Temple vs. UAB – 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7
  • Saint Joseph’s vs. Davidson – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9
  • Villanova vs. Creighton – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9

The Arts

Offset – Set It Off Tour

Popular hip-hop artist Offset is bringing his “Set It Off” tour to the Filmore in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. Tickets are available online.

Nate Bargatze

If you missed Nate Bargatze’s show at the Bryce Jordan Center a few months ago, you’re in luck, because he’ll be performing at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7.

Sting With The Philadelphia Orchestra

In one of the more random pairings on the schedule, Sting is performing at the Kimmel Center with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He will perform two shows, one at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 8, and another at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.

Exhibits & Festivals

The Art of the Brick at the Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute is currently home to the Art of the Brick exhibit which displays over 100 works of art recreated in LEGO. If you can’t make it over spring break, the exhibit runs through the summer.

Philadelphia Flower Show

The Philadelphia Flower Show, which happens to be the nation’s oldest flower show, will be held over spring break at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City. The event runs from March 2 through March 10.
