Former Penn State Football Defensive Tackle Austin Johnson Signs With Buffalo Bills

Former Penn State football defensive tackle Austin Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.

The details of his contract were not released.

Johnson played at Penn State for three seasons, including the Nittany Lions’ 2016 Big Ten Championship. During that time, he recorded 154 tackles, 8.5 sacks, four fumble recoveries, and a touchdown. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors junior year and was an honorable mention in his sophomore year.

After that, he entered the 2016 NFL Draft and was selected in the second round by the Tennessee Titans. He played for four seasons before joining the New York Giants at the end of the 2019 season.

With the Giants, he played every single game in his two seasons and earned the starting position in the 2021 season before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022.

During his two seasons in LA, Johnson recorded 68 tackles, one sack, three passes defended, and a forced fumble. Johnson will reunite alongside Nittany Lion teammate Daquan Jones as Buffalo searches to recover from last year’s playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
