Penn State Student Arrested For Assaulting Woman

A Penn State student was arrested for the assault of another Penn State student in an East Halls dormitory on Saturday morning.

Ryan Gustin, 21, of New York was detained around 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, after police responded to reports of an unconscious, intoxicated female. Upon arrival, the victim reported Gustin pushed her into the wall, and she struck her head and fell to the ground, according to the criminal complaint.

An individual present told police he saw Gustin raise his hand and then heard a loud noise.

Police observed blood on the victim and on Gustin’s pants before the woman was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Gustin is currently on interim suspension, Penn State spokesperson Lisa Powers told Onward State Monday. Additionally, he cannot be present of university property without permission and is banned from participating in university-sponsored events, including classes, while on suspension, she said.

Gustin is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

The defendant was not a resident of the East Halls dormitory and was not permitted inside the building.
