Report: Jury Rules In Favor Of Fired Penn State Football Doctor Scott Lynch

A Dauphin County jury has ruled in favor of Dr. Scott Lynch in his lawsuit against Penn State Health and Dr. Kevin Black, according to PennLive. Lynch sued his former employer and supervisor after he was fired from his work with the Penn State football team after he said he clashed with head coach James Franklin.

Lynch was awarded $5.25 million by the jury, according to PennLive. Lynch said his firing came after he went against the wishes of Franklin, who wanted players to play through injuries. Lynch did not sue Franklin nor Penn State Athletics.

While Franklin was not part of the suit, he was mentioned frequently during the trial. Former Penn State football players Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley took the stand in their former coach’s defense.

Testimony from Dr. Pete Seidenberg said Franklin and former Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour attempted to have a student-athlete who attempted to commit suicide medically disqualified from the team.
