Penn State Women’s Hockey Names Tessa Janecke Captain For 2024 Season

Penn State women’s hockey forward Tessa Janecke has been named captain for the 2024 season, the team announced Saturday on Twitter.

Janecke takes over as former captain Julie Gough graduated after five seasons with the Nittany Lions.

Janecke has been a major reason for the recent success of the women’s program, as she has 100 points over her first two seasons in Happy Valley. The club has won two consecutive conference championships and clinched consecutive births in the NCAA tournament.

During the 2023 season, Janecke led all skaters in her conference in points, with 53 over 38 games played. Janecke was named CHA Player and Forward of The Year while being among the 10 finalists for the Patty Kaymaier Award, given to the best overall skater in Division I hockey.

In addition to her success with the Nittany Lions, Janecke has been a key member of Team USA in the women’s World Cup. Over her first two tournaments, Janecke has 10 points in 14 games.

Penn State women’s hockey will open its season with a midweek series against Northeastern on Thursday, September 26, at Pegula Ice Arena.
