From Field Goals To Ring Goals: A Beaver Stadium Proposal

All roads lead back to Penn State…or down the aisle! Penn State alumna and lifelong Nittany Lion Darcie Grenier got engaged to Glenn Perry after Penn State football’s game against Bowling Green at Beaver Stadium on Saturday.

Grenier, originally from DuBois, Pennsylvania, and Perry, a native of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, connected on an online dating platform, where Grenier messaged Perry first. After discovering the pair had many mutual friends and connections, they instantly hit it off.

“We both had prior relationships that turned very sour, and we both felt like we were down to the point where we felt like we were at the bottom. And then, all of a sudden, we met each other and it was like a snap, and it’s felt completely different,” Perry said.

The couple has been together for over a year and a half. About a year in, Perry began to consider proposal ideas and formulate a plan.

“My father always said to me, ‘If you’ve been in a relationship over a year, the relationship was definitely worth it, and you can start looking forward to the next phase,'” Perry said.

Grenier and Perry took a trip to State College for this summer’s Arts Fest and toured the Penn State All-Sports Museum. At the time, Perry felt it was too early to pop the question and decided to wait until the fall when he knew they would be in town for a few games.

Perry tried to contact folks within Penn State Athletics and Beaver Stadium about where the best location would be to propose. After a few failed attempts, he took matters into his own hands and hatched a plan to seal the deal on Saturday.

Initially, Perry thought it would be great to propose pregame, but the pair ended up too close to the Bowling Green sideline with too many other people around. With plans unknown to Grenier, she conveniently suggested they take a picture in front of the Penn State University sign on Park Avenue after the game.

Perry informed the person snapping the picture of his plan and secured someone else to record the special moment. He instructed Grenier to stick around after the picture and said the words the two will remember forever.

“I got down on one knee, and I said, ‘I’m pretty sure I know the answer, but Darcie, will you marry me?'” Perry said.

Having the culmination of her love for Penn State integrated into her proposal was a surreal moment for Grenier.

“I feel like I blacked out, and I didn’t even notice the big crowd there. I went back and watched the video, and I could hear everyone, but I don’t even remember it. The proposal just feels like me. It’s what I love,” Grenier said.

Grenier graduated from Penn State DuBois last May after taking time off from school. She completed her degree in human development and family studies and appreciated everything the Penn State experience had to offer.

In her time at Penn State DuBois, Grenier was as involved as can be. She served on the student government, was a member of the campus activity board and student activity fee board, and was a part of the Blue and White Society.

Grenier’s busy schedule didn’t stop her from focusing on one of her true passions: THON. After experiencing her first THON in 2012, she made it a goal for herself to one day take the floor and dance to represent her school and its respective THON family.

Alongside one of her close childhood friends, they worked together to represent Penn State DuBois and support their THON child, Joey.

“Dancing in THON was the highlight of my entire college life,” Grenier said.

As for Perry, he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received his bachelor’s degree in sports administration. Perry has worked in child abuse and neglect services and currently works as a corrections officer.

Grenier and Perry are happy to integrate Grenier’s love for Penn State into all aspects of their new life together. The pair even named one of their dogs Nittany.

While the couple has dreams of getting married in Beaver Stadium, they are sure they’ll tie the knot in June 2026 and couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter of their lives.
