[Photo Story] The New Palmer Museum Of Art
The Palmer Museum of Art, which was founded in 1972, has moved to a new, larger location off of Bigler Road.
The Palmer Museum’s collection includes 11,000 pieces of art, around 7% of which is on display, that range from sculptures, glasswork, and paintings, to artifacts and much more. The new museum even includes digital interventions that can be scanned and will tell you about some of the artwork on display.
Upon entering, the lobby is well-lit by natural light through the large glass doors and windows. On the left is the reception desk and gift shop.
The museum includes two floors of art to explore. Now, it’s time to tour some of the best works from the museum!
The glasswork in the museum was very impressive, with a variety of different pieces displayed.
The museum also holds a section dedicated to works from the 19th century in the Benjamin and Lillian K. Snowiss Galleries.
Many different materials were on display including wood. The museum also had a section strictly devoted to artifacts, many of them being from native artists.
Despite being in the center of Pennsylvania, there were a plethora of different nautical pieces that ranged from paintings and other objects you’d expect to see in the ocean.
Many of the pieces come in a variety of shapes and sizes, making the museum very entertaining.
James and Barbara Palmer are the founders of the Palmer Museum. What kind of photo story would this be if it didn’t showcase the founders?
The Palmer Museum of Art offers more than just tours of the art housed inside their new location. They also offer monthly activities geared toward students, including a Halloween party.
The museum even offers yoga in the galleries. If you haven’t stopped by the new Palmer Art Museum, add it to your bucket list for this semester!
