Penn State Food We Wish We Had At Thanksgiving
It’s almost Thanksgiving, folks.
This week, many Penn State students travel from State College to be with loved ones enjoying a timeless American tradition: Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, the meal is filled with classics like turkey and stuffing, but what if we introduced some Penn State items into the meal?
We brainstormed some of State College’s unique food items we’d like to see added to the Thanksgiving meal rotation. Here’s what we came up with.
Bill Pickle’s Mac & Cheese
This past summer, Bill Pickle’s redid its entire menu with a new, barbecue-style flare, including mac and cheese. Since this dish is a staple in many families’ meals anyway, it only makes sense to add Pickle’s version to the spread.
Penn State Meat Labs Charcuterie
For those who may not know, Penn State sells a variety of meats and cheeses produced by students at the Meat Laboratory. They sell these products in the refrigerated section of the Berkey Creamery, which could make for a good appetizer before the main Thanksgiving meal.
Waffle Shop Waffles
Waffles aren’t a usual Thanksgiving food, but why not? They’re delicious, and I’m thankful for them. If chicken and waffles are a thing, why can’t turkey and waffles be a thing, too?
Berkey Creamery Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream
After Thanksgiving dinner is over, many families around the country will indulge in some pumpkin pie. However, for those who may not be a huge fan of pie, the Creamery’s pumpkin pie ice cream is a sweet alternative.
Way Fruit Farm Cider Donuts
If you’re not a fan of pumpkin but still want a sweet treat from State College, how about a cider donut from Happy Valley’s own Way Fruit Farm? They’re delicious and totally fit the fall vibe.
Mount Nittany Vineyard Wine
If you’re looking for something to wash down all the turkey and stuffing, why not enjoy a glass of one of Mount Nittany Vineyard’s various selections of wines?
The Corner Room’s Autumn Salad
While most people don’t use Thanksgiving as a day to reach for a salad, the Corner Room’s autumn salad features several seasonal ingredients that would tie it in well with the rest of the meal.
